Slovenians are consuming more and more vegetables, official statistics see to show. In 2019, a total of 246,000 tons of vegetables were consumed, which is about 118 kgs per capita and up 50% compared to 2000, the Statistics Office stated this week. In fact, Slovenians are eating more vegetables than the country produces. In 2019, the vegetable self-sufficiency rate was 43%. The rate was the lowest in 2010, at 30%, and highest in 2000, at 47%. Farmers produced over 120,000 tons of vegetables in 2019, while Slovenians consumed 267,000 tons of fruit in 2019.
