Brandenburg growers start the season with a slight delay

"Tomatoes ripened relatively late this year"

The tomato harvest has started in East Brandenburg. The same goes for Fontana Gartenbau in Manschnow (Märkisch-Oderland), as Managing Director Klaus Hentschel stated. There, about 300 kilograms of tomatoes a day are currently being picked. "Compared to recent years, tomatoes have ripened relatively late this year," Hentschel said.

Because temperatures in the greenhouses are relatively constant, he suspects it has something to do with sunlight. Other tomato growers reported a similar situation.

Harvesting will take place twice a week from now on. From these greenhouses, the firm from Manschnower mainly supplies markets and supermarkets in East Brandenburg and Berlin.
