Argentinian truffle breaks through on the French market

The black gold of Argentina is arriving in France and the French market seems to have been conquered, as it is expected to buy 140 kg of the product.

The Argentinian company Trufas del Nuevo Mundo has started exporting to France. “This market has a lot of potential. There is a high demand, our truffles are appreciated and orders continue to be placed, which is really incredible for us,” explains Faustino Terradas, sales manager of the company.

In terms of logistics, the National Institute of Industrial Technology, in the suburbs of Buenos Aires, worked on the method of preservation of these mushrooms for their long journey to Europe.

“They are vacuum-packed, but only partially so as to preserve their freshness. This way, the truffles continue to breathe. We offer a quality product, with the same powerful flavor as in Europe,” explains Faustino Terradas. “Everything is calculated with precision, we ‘hunt’ the truffles and ship them on the same day to the Buenos Aires airport before exporting them,” adds Tomás de Hagen, production manager.

With 50 hectares 500km away from Buenos Aires, the producer also wants to break through on the North American market. In order to do so, he plans to increase his production to 400kg in 2021 (from 170kg in 2020), and to double his production each year, with a goal of reaching 1.5 tons exported by 2024. His truffles are sold at 750 to 900 USD/kg.
