Importing 20.700 tonnes of the fruit from October 1 to March 15, Morocco is still the leading importer of Tunisian dates.
Director General Samir Ben Slimane from the Tunisian Inter-professional Date Group (GID), said in a statement: "Tunisia exported dates to around 82 countries, including Morocco, which represents the first destination with 20.700 tonnes, followed by Italy (6,700 tonnes), France (6,400 tonnes) and Germany (5,900 tonnes)."
Tunisia also exported its dates to Malaysia (5.600 tonnes), Spain (4.200 tonnes), Indonesia (3,800 tonnes), Turkey (3,000 tonnes), the US (2,400 tonnes) and Belgium (2,100 tonnes). The official added that the quantities of exported Tunisian dates reached, during this period, 81.800 tonnes representing a value of MAD 535.8 million, against 80.300 tonnes, or a value of MAD 556.6 million, during the same period of the past season (2019/2020).
