The sale of PGI salad from Lusia in fresh-cut bags from L'Insalata dell'Orto has started. The product was designed for big retail chains and is available in 150 gram bags. A lot of thought was put into the packaging so as to attract consumers and provide them with as much information as possible at a glance.
"The Lusia area (Veneto) is particularly suitable for the production of lettuce thanks to the sandy soil near the Adige river. The product is so tasty that many people eat it without adding salt, making it an even healthier option," explains project representative Sara Menin.
Thanks to a partner producer and to the supervision of the consortium, L'Insalata dell'Orto packages lettuce with the PGI mark. "Ours is the only lettuce with the PGI mark in Europe. The logo is well visible on the packets, so consumers can immediately understand it is a guaranteed product with specific characteristics."
Sales are just starting and will continue throughout summer until the fall. The main sale channel is the domestic retail chain, though some of the produce could be exported as demand peaks.
