"The interest for packaged produce is on the up and the health emergency has pushed this trend. For this reason, during the 2020/21 campaign, PGI lemons from Rocca Imperiale will be available in two new packaging formats as well as in the classic cardboard crates - a small cardboard box containing 4 fruits and a plastic bag with 2 fruits," explains Pietro Buongiorno, president of the Produttori di Limoni associati PO in Rocca Imperiale.
"The new options are already doing extremely well within the foreign big retail chain, especially in Great Britain, France, Romania, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. We supplied them during the past campaign as well but, this year, they increased orders enabling us to reach a record 80% growth with regards to the sales of PGI produce compared to 2020. The fruits were also sent to many Italian chains thanks to the partnership with the JoinFruit-Ponso PO in Piedmont."
"The lemon campaign is full swing and should end in early May. We harvest around 20 tons of lemons every day. The Rocca Imperiale area is characterized by unique soil and weather conditions, which contribute to the fruit's exceptional flavor, aroma and juice yield. Compared to the past campaign, quotations dropped by around 10% due to the higher yields per plant."
