Konrad Wojda, Staay Food Group:

"Year-round Granny Smith thanks to supply from Serbia"

Staay Food Group is further expanding its top fruit range with Granny Smith apples from Serbia. As a result, the Granny Smith is now also available all year round in the range.

Serbia is new as a supply country for Staay, but has years of experience in the cultivation and export of apples. The cultivation is concentrated in the low mountains of Northern Serbia, close to the Fruska Gora nature reserve. "The soil is very fertile and compact, which makes it ideal for fruit growing. Under the brand name COPA, our grower briefly covers more than 45,000 tonnes of apples per year with 450 hectares of orchards protected by hail nets."

The Serbian apples are available from February to May after which South Africa takes over the supply for the summer months. From October to January, the Granny Smiths continue to come from our own orchard in Tarragona, Spain. Available packages from COPA are the 7 and 13 kg open top boxes and the 18 kg telescope variants for (re)export.

Account manager Konrad Wojda is very pleased with the first shipment. “I am very happy with the first delivery. The apples are very beautiful, hard and bright green colored and delivered neat and tight on the pallet. ”

The top fruit supply from eastern Europe continues to increase with the Serbian apples at Staay. Polish apples have been actively imported for four years now. The range now consists of Royal Gala, Red Prince, Golden Delicious and, since this year, also Red Delicious. Standard packaging is 13 kg net in two layers and for (re)export also the 18 kg telescope box. Of course, other packaging is possible in consultation.
