Macoo LLC is on an expansion course even in times of the pandemic: The East German wholesale chain with headquarters in Dresden moved into a brand new business location in the north-east of Erfurt shortly before Christmas (on 21.12). With the new premises and expanded refrigeration capacities, the Thuringia branch of the store network looks to the future with confidence.

Expansion of the cooling capacity
A total of 1,400m² of operating space is available, of which approx. 600m² is cooling space. "The hall is tidy and in very good condition, and the cold stores are also as good as new," the management of Macoo confirms. The Erfurt branch will also be open on Saturdays with immediate effect.
The Erfurt branch is also up to date in terms of refrigeration logistics. "The new location on Blumenstraße is equipped with a direct exit ramp, is located directly on the B4 and has good connections to other motorways (10 min to the B7, 5 min to the A71, 15 min to the A4). "This is a slight improvement compared to our old location in Erfurt," the management says.

Customer acquisition and assortment expansion
With the opening of the new branch, the aim is to serve the major customers in the state of Thuringia in the best possible way. The company mainly supplies weekly market traders, regional Norma branches, gastronomy and specialist retailers. Despite the current circumstances in times of crisis, the Macoo management looks back on a successful first month of sales. "However, we are looking forward to spring in order to be able to supply all our customers again, who are unfortunately closed at the moment."

Regional goods procurement is also very important to Macoo GmbH in the state of Thuringia. Depending on the season, 40-60% of the company's demand is covered by regional producers. In line with today's retail needs, the product range has already been expanded to include dairy products as well as peeled potatoes, cooked potatoes and convenience. Depending on customer demand, further expansion of the product range is possible. "The growth opportunities for Erfurt and the surrounding area are very good. Several large social institutions have already been acquired as of the end of February and more will follow."

Drive to expand
Macoo was taken over by Marco Henschke and Jessica Becker-Henschke in 2019. The ambitious entrepreneurial couple has set itself the task of further expanding the branch network and its business activities. Currently, the company headquarters in Dresden - the largest location of the company - is being renovated according to the latest standards. Among other things, the cold storage rooms are being completely redesigned and modernised to increase product quality and operational efficiency. The construction work is scheduled to be completed by mid-March.
