After having consolidated the certified biodynamic agriculture line under the Demeter brand, the Agroponiente group plans to increase its organic production volume to 20 million kilos this year, surpassing the 18 million kilos it produced last year.
According to Diego Oller, Agroponiente's Bio-product manager: "This is a project in which the company is moving steadily, without forcing excessive growth and consolidating the steps it has taken in the previous seasons. Our organic production has not stopped growing. We are experiencing a process of expansion, not only in terms of the number of hectares we cultivate each year, but also in the range of products, the number of farmers, and in the organic and conventional product lines.”
This year, Agroponiente has a total of 250 hectares of organic farming, incorporating new producers to its team in Almeria and in other provinces. Today the company has organic plantations in Andalusia, in the provinces of Seville, Malaga, and Granada, in Murcia, Valencia, and Castilla-La Mancha. In Almeria, they have plantations in Poniente, Alpujarra, Vega de Almeria, and Campo de Níjar.
The company has mainly strengthened its production of red and yellow Palermo peppers, cucumbers, mini-watermelon, pear cherry tomatoes, and pear tomatoes. Cucumber and Palermo peppers were also incorporated into the Demeter specialization, which already included aubergine and California pepper.
Agroponiente group has consolidated a model based on a structure that includes different production areas. Their technical professionals advise producers on organic farming techniques and requirements, and their production is centralized in Berja, where the company has a processor that is certified for this agricultural specialty.
