Packed on plantations in Ecuador

SIIM and IFCO launch Extra Sweet Terrasol pineapples in IFCO crates

After the success of the banana in 2018 and a test phase launched by SIIM and IFCO 6 months ago, SIIM will now be offering to its European clients, packaging in IFCO crates for the Extra Sweet Terrasol pineapples directly from its packaging stations in Ecuador.

With this development in the packaging of its pineapples, SIIM pursues two objectives: a better preservation of the quality of its pineapples until their shipment to Europe, as well as the optimization of the supply chain, especially in the group’s new packaging platform at Rungis where a cold room has been specifically designed, with air heaters and air guidance systems, so that the pineapples retain all their freshness and taste quality for the consumer.

“Packing our pineapples in IFCO reusable and recyclable crates, recognized for both their sturdiness and optimal ventilation, is essential in order to improve the supply chain and guarantee the best preservation of the quality of our pineapples. Using IFCO sustainable transport packaging also perfectly meets our CSR and environmental commitments,” explains Vincent Omer-Decugis, CEO of SIIM.

With their sustainable transport packaging, thanks to their reusability and recyclability, the IFCO containers also help prevent bananas and pineapples from being crushed during transportation for instance. “We are very pleased to put our reusable and recyclable containers at the service of a more reliable and sustainable supply chain for these two sensitive products: bananas and pineapples,” said Pierre-Olivier Blanchard, CEO of IFCO France.
