Michigan State apple committee expands dietitian kit

The Michigan Apple Committee has released new sections for its Retail Dietitian Kit to continue assisting retailers with educating their customers about the health benefits of regular apple consumption.

“Our official dietitian, Shari Steinbach, is a wonderful asset and her expertise as a retail dietitian has allowed us to provide a helpful, turnkey resource for retail dietitians across the country. Consumers often look to their local supermarket as a source for information about healthy eating, recipes and solutions for their families. The Michigan Apple kit is a way for retailers to reach their shoppers, particularly as consumers have been increasingly focused on their health,” said Diane Smith, executive director of the Michigan Apple Committee.

The three supplemental sections to the retail dietitian kit focus on making nutrition fun for kids; encouraging plant-forward diets; and sustainable farming and eating patterns. The kit now includes 11 total sections with guidance for retail dietitians on the Michigan Apple industry; varietal, usage and storage information; and copy for social media posts, television segments and blog posts for retailers.

“Shari Steinbach tapped into her years of experience as a retail dietitian to pull together concepts and information she knows dietitians need. Her expertise in planning and writing the content as well as connecting us with dietitians across the country to share it with, has been tremendous,” said Smith. “The new sections of the kit mention the challenges of working in the retail landscape amid the COVID-19 pandemic--bringing timely resources to retail RDs in a time when consumers are seeking health guidance more than ever.”
