Data shows that recent wholesale prices of white radish are 0.7-0.8 yuan per half a kilo, higher than the prices of 0.4-0.55 yuan seen during the same period of last year. It is reported by customers and growers that there are a few factors that contribute to the higher wholesale prices this year.
First of all, between the supply windows of products from Northern China and those from Jiangsu, prices were higher than in previous years. Worried that prices would fall, part of the growers were eager to market their products, resulting slightly lighter volumes available at the moment compared with the same period of last year.
Secondly, with the arrival of cold and snowy weather in the north, the demand for supplies from Jiangsu has increased. In addition, temperatures have remained low recently and the growth of the crop is slowed. Moreover, the growing season in Hubei and Hunan experienced a lot of rainfall, resulting in smaller supply at the moment, and the quality is also not as good as in previous years.
In the near future, the new crop from Zhejiang and Shanghai will hit the market, and the supply volume from Hubei and Hunan will also improve, creating room for wholesale prices to fall.
