Moroccan avocado imports increased by an outstanding 193.11%

Spain imports 32% more cucumber and 29% more tomato from Morocco

Spanish imports of Moroccan fruits and vegetables have registered a notable increase in the first nine months of the year. According to data from the statistical service ESTACOM (ICEX-Tax Agency), Spain purchased a total of 428.64 million kilos of fruits and vegetables from Morocco in those months, i.e. 18.73% more than in the same period of the previous year.

The largest imported volume corresponds to watermelon with 88.6 million kilos, i.e. 63.89% more than the 54 million kilos it purchased in the first nine months of 2019.

Green beans ranked second. Spain bought 58.02 million kilos from Morocco, i.e. 1.81% more than the nearly 57 million kilos it purchased in the same period of the previous year.

Tomatoes ranked third. From January to September Spain imported 52.95 million kilos of tomatoes from Morocco, i.e. 28.97% more than the 41.05 million kilos it purchased in the first nine months of 2019.

They were followed by peppers, with 47.14 million kilos, i.e. 6.6% less than the 50.47 million kilos of the previous year.

Oranges ranked fifth with 44.33 million kilos, which is 73.86% higher than the 25.5 million kilos imported between January and September 2019.

The 193.11% increase in avocado imports from Morocco stands out. Spain went from purchasing 4.05 million kilos of avocados from Morocco in the first nine months of 2019 to 11.87 million kilos in the same period of 2020.

Melon imports between January and September of 2020 increased by 65.43%, going from 5.46 million kilos in 2019 to 9.03 million kilos this year.

Cucumber imports between January and September amounted to 3.55 million kilos, i.e. 32.08% more than the 2.69 million kilos that the country imported in the same period of 2019.
