Evergreen to run Cherry Express from mid-December

From the second week of December to the second week of January, the Taiwanese shipping company Evergreen will provide its Cherry Express service connecting San Antonio and China directly in only 21 days for the shipment of cherries, stated Ricardo Albertz, Operations and Logistics Manager at Evergreen Shipping Chile.

“The normal route lasts 26 to 27 days and the Cherry Express only takes 21 days. It makes an additional effort regarding fuel use. The route is much more expeditious and faster, precisely because of the demand that Asia has for this type of commodity,” added Albertz.

The executive assured that the difficulty of replacing empty containers in recent months was due to an increase in Asian exports and not to COVID-19.

“The difficulties there have been are due to a shortage of containers worldwide. The replacement of empty containers has been critical in all shipping companies. There is a voracious demand for 40 high cube feet containers in Asia. Our shipping company is trying to increase the development of the intra-Asia business and from Asia to the United States and South America with this type of container, which is the most demanded container in the market," he said.

According to Albertz, in 2021 there will be a normalization and even growth of flows that will be sustained by the health measures implemented throughout the planet to prevent the interruption of the logistics chain due to the pandemic.
