Radicchio season in full swing in Veneto

The latest introductions by Geofur, i.e. flowpacked products and recipes for consumers, have received excellent feedback despite the slower sales due to Covid-19.

Geofur flowpacked produce

"The night frost of the last period and the difference in temperature between night and day mean quality is unlike anything we have seen in years. The produce is very crunchy and with an deep bright color. The low temperatures are staggering ripening, so there are no overabundance problems like there were in 2019," explained owner Cristiana Furiani.

Sales, however, are not as thrilling. "The market is slow, consumption is low due to the current uncertainty. Families are purchasing less. Luckily, we had planned our production so we are not dealing with excess produce: we manage to sell everything we are collecting, so the produce is always fresh."

Geofur also exports abroad, and is waiting for the market to become livelier.

"There is a lot of attention for Radicchio di Verona IGP also thanks to the work carried out by the consortium. Media coverage has helped a lot over the years."

Cristiana Furiani stresses how feedback is good for radicchio in flowpacks including recipes. "It is a service we provide consumers, as we are certain providing ideas on how to use our radicchio can push sales."
