The general manager of Complejo Agroindustrial Beta, Lionel Arce Orbegozo, stated that the company expects to export nearly 13,000 tons of fresh blueberries this season (August-December), i.e. 136% more than the 5,500 tons it shipped in the 2019 season. So far this season, the company has exported more than 10,000 tons of fresh blueberries.
The main markets for Complejo Agroindustrial Beta's blueberries are Europe, which accounts for 55% of the exported fruit, the United States, with 40% of the total, and Asia, which receives the remaining 5%.
Arce said that the company currently has 700 hectares of production in Lambayeque (Jayanca and Olmos) and 300 in Ica. All areas are in production, although some went into production this year. The company mainly works with the Ventura blueberry, the Biloxi blueberry, and other patented varieties.
Regarding the possibility of increasing the area devoted to growing this berry, Arce said they were seeing how the Peruvian supply evolved, as there is some concern about the high production volumes. “This happens with all products. They start with low volumes and high prices and as supply increases, prices fall. The price has fallen by almost 50% in the last three years,” he stated.
