The export price of Chinese ginger showed an increase before National Day [1 October, 2020] and this trend has continued. Only recently did the price stabilize. The current export price is around 3,400 USD per ton. The main reason why the price of ginger remains high is because the supply volume of top-quality ginger is dwindling.
The price of Chinese ginger is rather high for processing factories. And the product quality is not guaranteed at this stage of the season, so many processing factories have already temporarily halted their operations. Overseas buyers are divided in their response to the high price of Chinese ginger. Some have switched to suppliers from Brazil, Thailand, and Peru, while others have turned to the recent harvest of Chinese ginger.

"The arrival price of recently harvested air-dried ginger is around 2,200-2,400 USD per ton. This price is much higher than last year when the export price was around 1,400-1,500 USD per ton. The price increased by more than 55%. The price of yellow ginger was high last year, which is one of the reasons why the price of fresh ginger is also high this year, but another reason is significant domestic market demand." This is according to Jason of Anqiu Tailai Foods Co., Ltd.
When asked about the impact of the second lockdown in Europe on Chinese ginger export, manager Jason replied: "Although many European countries have entered a second lockdown, transport will not be affected in the same way as before. The production volume and the product quality of Chinese ginger are both excellent this year. We have already received pre-orders for fresh ginger from a number of overseas buyers. We deliver most of our ginger between December and March, and we have plenty of stock in our warehouse. We welcome orders from clients for our top-quality ginger."
