BLE market report KW 43 / 2020:

Local Elstar, Jonagold and Royal Gala dominated the market

Native apples dominated events, primarily Elstar, Jonagold and Royal Gala. The presence of Boskoop and Pinova apparently expanded, while that of Delbarestivale was continuously limited. From Italy, Royal Gala and Golden Delicious were the main products. French shipments were rare and did not get beyond a complementary status. The same applied to Dutch Elstar and Boskoop. Cheap Gala and Golden Delicious gained their market share in Berlin, as they only cost € 0.75 per kg.

A few deliveries from Belgium and Kosovo rounded off the range of goods. Overall, their availability had increased. A quite nice demand could therefore be covered without any difficulties. The traders rarely had any reason to change their previous demands. As a rule, the prices remained at the same level. Only locally did some items become cheaper due to increased volumes.

Pears
Italy dominated the scene with Abate Fetel, Santa Maria and Williams Christ. The demand was satisfied without effort; it was not particularly strong.

Table grapes
The supply obviously increased. The organoleptic characteristics of Turkish Sultana and Crimson Seedless had improved, which had a positive effect on their turnover.

Small citrus fruits
More and more clementines became available rapidly: they came in mainly from Spain. The Italian season began with the first deliveries, but these were relatively expensive and therefore received little local attention.

Lemons
Spanish batches dominated over Turkish and South African ones. Deliveries grew strongly and exceeded demand. So there had to be some concessions to avoid stocks.

Bananas
Available volumes usually harmonized with the sales. As a result, prices were mostly within the previous ranges.

Cauliflower
In some places, availability was so limited that the demand could not be met. In others,, there was so much merchandise available that it was not possible to clear it all.

Lettuce
In the case of iceberg lettuces, Spanish deliveries now formed the basis of the product range; they had ousted domestic goods from their number one spot. The trade was quiet. Slight price increases could be established in certain areas.

Cucumbers
Spanish goods dominated. Availability increased. The demand could not always keep up with this.

Tomatoes
Priority was given to Dutch and Belgian deliveries. The assortment was very diverse. The organoleptic characteristics were mostly good.

Sweet peppers
Spanish products predominated and continued to expand their importance. The interest was quite friendly and could be satisfied without effort. As a result of the increased availability, on most markets the prices tended to go down somewhat.
