Italia grapes need no hormone treatments

"The current Italia grape campaign of Sicilian origin is still affected by the slow consumption recorded for early grapes but, since production is exceptional this year, there is still time for prices to increase until December," reports Vincenzo Dipasquale, an entrepreneur producing and commercializing fruit products.

Vincenzo Dipasquale

"The past two years have been terrible as the produce in 2018 was entirely ruined by cracking and 2019 was characterized by a price crisis. Actually, the 2018 batches that escaped cracking sold at good prices, it was rather the drastic reduction of the produce available that was almost the end of many companies. The problem in 2019 was quality, which led to low prices and further damaged producers."

"In 2020, the fruit has finally gone back to boasting the organoleptic standards of the Italia grapes that used to be appreciated all over Europe. It is particularly popular in France, but the Germans like it as well. Unlike some seedless varieties, Italia grapes do not need hormone treatments and therefore grow more naturally."

"We believe that, if performed properly, integrated agricultural techniques are just as good as organic or biodynamic ones, which are sometimes just a trend. It is not just marketing that makes a good product and in fact, despite being seeded, Italia grapes have plenty of healthy properties."

"The organoleptic properties of Italia grapes are truly exceptional this year. The color of the skin ranges from straw yellow to amber with those typical freckles that are a sign of the naturalness of the fruit. The classic flavor has that unmistakable Muscat aftertaste and an intense sweetness. Brix level rarely goes below 18-19° and often reaches 20°."

The production price of the best batches reaches €0.60-1.00/kg. Quotations should increase over the next few days as batches with a lower quality sell out. The weather was so good that even those vineyards that were not managed according to the highest standards managed to produce quite a lot.
