The quality brand top fruit campaign has already come to an end in the Spanish region of El Bierzo, in the province of Leon. As reported by the Guarantee Mark of the Bierzo Conference Pear, the spring frosts caused a 40% drop in the production and brought the volume down to about 9 million kilos.
For their part, those responsible for the Designation of Origin of the Reineta apple said that the impact of frosts in this crop was "minimal," and that the production stood at 2 million kilos.
From now on, the fruit will reach the market after going through the quality controls required by both the Guarantee Mark and the Designation of Origin. The marketing campaign will run until July 2021.
It is worth recalling that the Bierzo conference pear Guarantee Mark has 170 registered producers with an area of 420 hectares. In turn, the Reineta del Bierzo Designation of Origin apple has 90 registered producers, with a total of 96 hectares.
