Different markets for onions and garlic

The commercialization of domestic golden, red and white onions has started in Italy. An operator reports that "things are slow, since supply is not in line with demand. Huge volumes have remained unsold due to the low demand on the domestic market and many wholesalers complain about the disappointing situation. Quotations are 30% lower than last year. We will have to wait mid-October for imports."

The situation is better for garlic, also because the market is completely different. "The Spanish produce currently available manages to reach high quotations. This is because the rainy weather in spring has in fact led to a 30% drop in volumes. Quotations are interesting for morado garlic as well."
