The first positive balances for the melon and watermelon campaigns under the brand L'orto di Eleonora, brand of O.P. Agricola Campidanese were reported. "Eleonora and Gavina are seedless products, which sold like hotcakes in summer 2020, despite sales and sanitary challenges. For Eleonora we still have some product that will be distributed in the first days of this week and we placed the last orders for the mini watermelon Gavina just last weekend. It is a campaign that ended 10 days earlier than in 2019." This was the comment of the director Salvatore Lotta.
"Despite the -30% on the planned hectares, we have reached so far a +7% on turnover and established new business relationships with national and international stakeholders. What rewarded us was the quality and the warm and prolonged climate of summer 2020. We were undoubtedly also affected by the commercial crisis, especially for melons and traditional watermelons."
"The campaign does not end here. Piel De Sapo Majores, available until the first fortnight of October, are continuing to sell. It is a round, green, sweet melon of a size ranging from 1.6 to 2.3 kg. We are seeing a resumption of requests, with sales prices around 1 euro per kilogram."
