The Chinese banana price experienced heavy fluctuations last week (September 13-19). The order volume was relatively small and the overall price showed a downward trend. At the weekend, however, the price began to stabilize.
The Chinese market is almost fully prepared for the double festival of National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival on the first of October. More distant markets are fully prepared, but markets closer to the production areas are still ordering bananas. Visiting traders still show enthusiasm, but the overall order volume is relatively small. The banana price has now returned to regular levels and trade has slowed down. The market will require some time during this festive period to absorb the volume of bananas previously purchased. And the market conditions during this festive period will give some indication of future developments in the Chinese banana market.
