Filip Devlieghere, Frambozenkwekerij Devlieghere:

"Good price formation for raspberries all season"

The mood at Frambozenkwekerij (Raspberry Nursery) Devlieghere is positive. “The season has been going very well so far. It is a different year from previous years, partly due to the virus, but production is also not like other years. We had slightly less production this year due to the mild winter. Nevertheless, we were able to meet the demand,” says Filip Devlieghere.

“We are also satisfied with the price this year. We have had good pricing throughout the season. At the moment as well the price is good to very good and is between € 14 and € 14.50 per kilo. We still have to wait and see what the price will do in the coming weeks when we expect a little more production," says Filip. “Demand has been very good this year. We have a lot more customers for home sales than in previous years. ”

Despite the heat, Devlieghere has been able to keep the quality of the raspberries high. “We had to do a lot of work to protect the fruit from the heat, but we did it. We expect to be able to harvest until late November / early December, subject to price and weather. Last year we picked until the beginning of November, but the year before until mid-December. It really depends on the situation at that time. ”

“At the moment we have started picking the autumn varieties. Currently, everything is Kwanza and due to the amount of sun the raspberries have had, they are still very tasty. Raspberries are really bought for their flavour, which is why it is important to have good flavorful varieties. Kwanza is one of our favourite varieties at the moment,” Filip concludes.
