Daniel Badger - Vitafresh Produce

Quality difference in sweet potatoes reflected in price

Old Season Sweet potatoes from the US are still on the UK market, but the new season crop has already began harvesting.

“We have our own brand of sweet potatoes from the US, ‘Farmhouse Sweets’,” explains Daniel Badger - Managing Director of Vitafresh Produce. “There are lots of Egyptian sweet potatoes around just now but the quality is low and this reflects in the price difference between our US sweet potatoes and those from Egypt.”

Daniel said that demand in the UK was a bit subdued just now, the Governments ‘Eat out to help out’ scheme had ended and demand from food service is low. He does expect demand to pick up as we enter the colder months though. The Autumn menu changes will have a positive impact on demand for Sweet Potatoes.

Vitafresh are expecting the first new season arrivals from the US in early October.
