Lasalgaon APMC: Onion prices up 33%

At Lasalgaon APMC, average wholesale prices onions increased by 33% in one week. This was a reaction on the supply being affected by rain. The average wholesale price of onion increased from Rs 1,200 per 100 kgs on August 24 to Rs 1,600 per 100 kgs on Saturday with around 5,200 100 kgs of the produce being auctioned at Lasalgaon .

“Around 15,000 100 kgs of onions arrive at Lasalgaon APMC on a daily basis, but the supply has now reduce to between 5,000 and 8,000 100 kgs owing to the incessant rainfall,” an APMC official said. “Most of the farmers are not bringing their produce to the market. This has overall led to the rise in average wholesale onion price.”

According to the official, the average wholesale onion price may go up further and cross the Rs 2,000 per 100 kgs-mark during the next couple of weeks. The minimum and maximum wholesale onion prices on Saturday were recorded at Rs 600 and Rs 1,786 per 100 kgs, respectively.
