The Re-fruiter tray from Fonkels has been nominated for the European Carton Excellence Award 2020. The Re-fruiter tray is a fully cardboard packaging, made from 100% recycled material, with unique properties. The jury found the tray to be very distinctive in terms of shape, function and durability: hence the spot in the finals.
The strawberry tray fits ten per crate and has a special rounded edge at the top, so that the strawberries are not damaged when picked. The strawberry trays also have special round corners, making them easy to take out of the crates.
The flex bottom protects the fruit
The most innovative thing about this packaging, however, is the patented flex bottom. A unique technique that makes a resilient and absorbent bottom from rigid material (cardboard), so that the fruit is not crushed and juices are absorbed. After use, the strawberry containers can be recycled with other papers, so that it can be used again as a raw material.
