"This year, we have increased the area of soft fruit, raspberries and blueberries in particular. We have also increased the hectares destined to organic berries by 15%," reports Pietro Paolo Ciardiello, director of Coop Sole.
"The campaign started 15 days early, between late April and early May. It will end towards late August for blueberries, October for blackberries and January for raspberries. Quality is good."
"The commercial trend has been stable for blackberries and raspberries, while it has somewhat fluctuated for blueberries."
Italian blueberries have gained their share of the market over the past few years thanks to an extended production period. The growth is slow, but it is more interesting than that of blackberries and raspberries.
"Considering the higher demand, we need to focus more on the Italian market. We are testing new varieties to obtain better performances and extend the calendar. As for raspberries, we work mainly with the foreign markets (70%) where they are appreciated and demanded. Demand is in line with last year."
Coop Sole soft fruits are commercialized under the Solarelli premium "Chicche di Natura" range by Apofruit Italia, used for high-quality products that are healthy, ethical and with a good shelf-life. "Our products are recognizable on the market and people appreciate the excellent quality of our Italian fruits."
