Rivoira Zero, the first apples with zero residues

After a long research and development process, the Italian group Rivoira has invested in a new Zero Residues project, to offer high-end, sustainable, certified, and chemical-free products.

The group has designed Rivoira Zero a cultivation and health protocol aimed at guaranteeing that their products are 100% free of residues. The pesticide residues in these apples, the company states, are below the analytical quantification limit (less than 0.01 ppm). The result is a sustainable and certified product.

Marco Rivoira, the managing director of the group, stated that "the project will begin this year, with around 3,000 tons of Gala, the variety chosen to start this new and ambitious project, which will involve the Italian GDO."

"The main objective is to improve a product for a consumer who is looking for high-quality, residue-free certified fruit and to further segment the offer by placing the product in an intermediate-range that would lie between conventional and organic products," Rivoira said. This new range will offer consumers a new price range. It will improve and distinguish the offer of traditional apple varieties at the sales point and offer higher remuneration to fruit producers.

The company planned its production specification down to the smallest detail and the entire supply chain has been managed by technical experts in the field backed by certified laboratories. Rivoira Zero will be packaged in an ecological cardboard pack and Nature Fresh film, which is 100% bioplastic and compostable in nature.

The lack of residues and pesticides achieved by this new project will allow the company to improve and enhance the extraordinary characteristics that are naturally present in all of its apples.
