Richard Strijbis, Tovano, the Netherlands:

"We'll soon get our first Chilean shelled, organic walnuts"

Two years ago, Tovano cautiously began offering an organic dried fruit and nuts range. That's now gradually expanding. "They're not the biggest item. But, we can use them to supply an interesting niche market," says Richard Strijbis.

Shelled walnuts

In week 31, this Dutch company will get its first Chilean organic, shelled walnuts. "That will mean we'll have something truly unique inhouse. Because, as far as I know, these aren't available on the European market yet. There's more supply of organic walnuts from Eastern Europe. However, it's far more complex when it comes from overseas."

Cashews from Vietnam

Tovano doesn't sell only organic walnuts. They have almonds, cashews, pitless dates, hazelnuts, and pecans that are organic too. "So, we can offer our clients that something extra. Organic dried fruit and nuts are a tad more expensive than conventional varieties. But, we're expanding our range to suit our clients. So, for organic nuts, just phone Tovano", concludes Richard, laughing.
