Black Passion is the name of the new 4-6 kg watermelon which is already commercially available, and will be so until September. It is a quality product, characterized by a completely Italian supply chain: from research and varietal selection to marketing, all the way to production and processing.
"A watermelon truly made in Italy, in the whole value chain - explains Sandro Colombi - which boasts an all-Italian, close-knit team working together. The group brings together farms from the north and south of Italy, in order to offer a long product availability and to have sorting and processing centers located in several points of the peninsula".
Black Passion, an already existing commercial brand, is now focusing on an innovative and particular variety.
"Significant investments have been made - continues Colombi - to offer a new product, and not one already seen before. Black Passion is distinguished by a °Brix of not less than 12, a bright red pulp, a crunchy consistency and a dark black husk without streaks of any kind. The seed is white and soft and edible, to guarantee an excellent post-harvest shelf life and also consumption after some time".
The research and selection work has led to a variety of triploid black watermelon, which will be officially presented on 31 July 2020.
