Price of Xiahei grapes in China falling to ten year low

Xiahei grapes are currently flooding on to the market. There is sufficient supply on the market and the enthusiasm of traders is not high. The market performance has not been ideal with prices continuously falling since the new season started. From week 27, prices have been falling for nine weeks in a row. Affected by Covid-19, the price of grapes from Jianshui in Yunnan has fallen sharply this year, among which Xiahei is the most affected.

The price of this variety was high at first, but then dropped. Peak prices reached 16-17 yuan/kg, but prices now have fallen to a ten-year low of 7-8 yuan/kg. The main producing areas of the Xiahei variety include Shaanxi, Yunnan, Hebei, and Zhejiang. Early supply on that market was mainly from Yunnan. At the time, market supply was insufficient and prices increased. Later on, with new crop from other regions flooding on to the market, the overall market supply increased and prices fell accordingly. At the same time, consumption has not yet fully recovered and consumers are showing rational consumption behaviors. In order to adapt to these market conditions, prices have fallen sharply compared with previous years.
