The demand for Hungarian products will continue to grow, according to the president of the Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Organization and Product Council (FruitVeb), as a new regulation is making it compulsory for the flag of the country of origin to be visible in stores.
From July 15, it is no longer enough for the name of the country of origin of fruit and vegetables to be on the traceability label, but the flag should also be visible, further drawing customers ’attention to where the product comes from, said Ferenc Ledó to InfoRádió, recalling that this has been the case for meat products for a long time.
The President of FruitVeB is confident that the measure will give a boost to domestic fruit and vegetable consumption and purchases, considering that it will become easier for consumers to look for Hungarian products. Everyone is drawn by visual aspects when buying a product, since there is typically no way to taste it, and hopefully, Hungarian products will be the ones picked if they are considered to be competitive in terms of both quality and price.
The organization is also optimistic about Hungarian customers becoming more environmentally conscious, leading them to prefer their home country, as those products have a lower environmental impact than imported goods.
