Swedish vegetables ploughed under due to corona crisis

Hundreds of tonnes of vegetables grown in Sweden have been lost due to corona. CEO Per Johansson of cultivation company Åhus Grönt explains that they have had to plough about 200 tonnes of Chinese cabbage and 600 tonnes of iceberg lettuce because sales to the catering industry have drastically declined: "We are now using the vegetables as food for the soil."

The company's 1,000 tonnes of stored potatoes are also to be processed into animal feed. For Åhus Grönt it means that they are throwing out about one tenth of the annual harvest: a loss of several million Swedish kronor.
