King and Queen of Spain visited Murcia and Cieza

Spain’s royal couple visited an agricultural co-operative, as well as the Murcian Institute of Biosanitary Research on Tuesday, as part of a nationwide tour to support essential sectors and thank all of those who have been crucial in supplying essential services throughout the Covid crisis.

The tour began in the Canary Islands, after which Don Felipe and Dona Letizia stopped off in the Balearic Islands, Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha and the Valencian Community.

The first stop-off was the La Carrichosa de Cieza cooperative, where the couple was shown the inner workings of the co-operative, which packs and transports thousands of tons of pears, table grapes, peaches, apricots and Paraguayas before heading out into the plantations to see the work at first hand.

After visiting Cieza the tour moved on to Murcia City to visit the Murcian Institute of Biosanitary Research (IMIB) to learn about the advances in scientific studies on covid-19 carried out by medical personnel of the Murcian Health Service and the University of Murcia.
