"The Chinese onion price has fluctuated a lot in the past few months. In the last few weeks the overall trend was one of decline, but now the price has hit a low point and is beginning to bounce back. The price showed a slight increase in the last few days. We expect this development to continue in the near future." This is according to Mr. Luo, an onion wholesale dealer from Sichuan.
"We currently supply onions from Henan. We mainly sell Double Red and Purple Red onions. The average weight is between 0.2-0.6 kg. The production volume of Henan onions slightly decreased this year, by about 10%. The consumer market is unable to absorb as many onions as in previous years because the outbreak of Covid-19 had a severe impact on the economy. Farmers and traders are not pleased with the slow pace of trade."

"We mainly sell our onions in the domestic market at the moment. We sell through traditional sales channels as well as e-commerce platforms. Most of our onions are sold in Sichuan and nearby areas. The trade is not great at the moment, but we are not worried. The onion market suffers from a general economic malaise, which will recover sooner or later, and then the onion market will recover as well."
