"A popular fruit around the world"
Ufuk Gungor, manager of an export company specialised in tropical fruits, said that Turkey produces avocados from September to May and exports during the same time frame. Pointing out to the increased production and exports, Gungor stated that both domestic and foreign demands are on the rise.
"Mexico makes 6 billion USD (5.3 million Euro) from avocados, this is an important figure. Avocados are very popular around the world and there is a great potential in exports. We call this the 'green diamond'. In Mexico, yearly consumption per person is 8 to 9 kilos, in Europe this is around 2 kilos, in Russia 150 grams and in our country, where it's not well-know, only around 60 grams." said Gungor.
