Pinghe honey pomelo will enter Chinese market in mid-August

The weather conditions in honey pomelo production areas in Fujian were quite regular in the last few weeks. Plantation activities are taking place as usual. Manager Wen of Pinghe County Flourish Fruits Co., Ltd., a company specialized in the export of honey pomelo, recently talked about current conditions in the Chinese honey pomelo industry.

"The honey pomelo in our plantation are relatively large this year. However, we have not yet started to cover the pomelo with protective pouches. If the weather conditions remain regular in the next few weeks, we will begin harvesting our honey pomelo in August. The overall surface area devoted to honey pomelo in Pinghe did not change much this year. The production volume per hectare also looks stable this season. We therefore expect this year's production volume to reach the same levels as in previous years."

When asked about developments in the Chinese honey pomelo market, manager Wen replied: "We are keeping a close eye on the impact of Covid-19 on overseas markets. We are still three months away from the beginning of the new harvest season and I expect that the situation will have improved by the time we start exporting our honey pomelo. Sales and distribution should continue as usual. We plan to export 500-600 shipping containers full of Pinghe honey pomelo. That is a slight growth in comparison with last year. However, the actual conditions of the export season will depend on the development of the Covid-19 pandemic."

"We mainly export our honey pomelo to the European market. Although the conditions in the honey pomelo export market become more and more difficult, we still receive a growing volume of pomelo orders from our long-term clients. We exported a total of 500 shipping containers in 2019, which was an increase of nearly 20% in comparison with 2018. We have our own processing facilities, which is one of our main advantages in the Chinese honey pomelo industry. We can process and package our honey pomelo in accordance with the requirements of our clients. Furthermore, we keep the pomelo fresh in our warehouse, which helps us extend our retail period. When the market supply of honey pomelo begins to grow smaller, we are still able to supply honey pomelo to our overseas clients."

Pinghe County Flourish Fruits owns a honey pomelo orchard in Pinghe, Fujian. The plantation covers an area of 120 hectares. All the honey pomelo produced at this plantation are GAP certified. "We are continuously working hard to improve the overall product quality of our honey pomelo. We strictly implement the highest standards when it comes to plantation management, harvest activities, or storage in our own warehouse, as well as the selection of top-quality honey pomelo and the packaging of our products. We strive to provide our clients with the highest quality honey pomelo from Pinghe."
