As reported by El Entre Ríos, on Wednesday night, a large fire affected the facilities of two well-known blueberry firms in the Concordia region.
Cristian Bravo, head of the Voluntary Fire Department, said that “at 0:32, we were informed of a fire at kilometer 263 of the Artigas Highway. Some facilities belonging to the fruit and blueberry packaging and processing company Integrity S.A, where Agroberries also operates, were burning down. The incident lasted until approximately 10 in the morning and 4 firefighter crews were needed.”
According to Bravo, there were no people inside when the fire started. "We don't know the cause of the fire; an electrical failure seems the likeliest reason, but in a plant with so many flammable elements, there are many options. No theories can be discarded yet," he said.
The partial report of the affected structures reveals the loss of 5 cold rooms, 4 cooling tunnels, an industrial scale and several sorting and calibrating lines.
