The Moguer-based firm Agromolinillo has been producing and marketing fruit for more than 40 years. It currently has about 700 hectares of crops distributed between 10 producers, out of which 400 are used for the cultivation of blueberries, 100 for strawberries, 10 for blackberries and 30 for raspberries. In the latest campaign, the cooperative obtained a production volume totaling 16 million kilos, 90% of which was exported.
"So far, we have managed to grow in every campaign, and not only in terms of turnover," says the company. "We have also seen a rise in the number of varieties and permanent workers, expanded our acreage and our facilities, and devoted more resources to research and sustainable crops. In this second generation, Agromolinillo is strengthening its foundations and structure with clear ideas and perseverance.”
Agromolinillo's biggest bet is on blueberries, with more than half of the cultivated area devoted to them. "Blueberries have growth potential, but we believe that what should be allowed to grow is not the supply, but the demand. In neighboring countries, Portugal and France, as well as Spain, there is little demand for this fruit,” they say.
“We have made a very strong commitment to organic blueberries. For this campaign, we have doubled our acreage, reaching almost 80 hectares. And we have also grown with other fruits. In raspberries, with our Adelita variety, we have reached 35 hectares.”
The company works with a wide range of varieties. “We are constantly carrying out studies in order to adapt to the demands of markets and consumers, always prioritizing respect for sustainability in our fields. As far as raspberry cultivation is concerned, we are committed to the Adelita, a very tasty, large and fleshy variety. As for strawberries, our varieties for this campaign are the Rábida, Rociera, Savana and Calinda. Lastly, our premium regular and organic blueberry varieties are the Star and Windows," they say.
Agromolinillo is one of the companies integrated in Fruta de Andalucía, a cooperative society created in late 2014 by producers in Andalusia's agro-food sector based in the province of Huelva, who decided to join forces in order to gain a stronger foothold in traditional and emerging markets. The berries produced by Agromolinillo and marketed and exported by Fruta de Andalucía reach more than 30 countries.
