In the Covid-19 era Giro' guarantees supplies without increasing prices

Packaged versus unpacked fruit and vegetables

The international company dedicated to packaging solutions for the fruit and vegetable sector, Girò, continued to operate in complete safety and without interruption throughout the Covid-19 emergency period, in order to guarantee constant supplies to its customers all over the world.

"The Covid-19 pandemic has exposed us to major changes. Even during this phase 2 of the partial opening of activities, the lockdown will most certainly change lifestyles and eating habits over the long term. As for us, this whole situation has only accelerated, as we predicted in unauspicious times, the demand for a greater assortment of packaged fruit and vegetables, compared to the unpacked product." This is what the directors of the Girò GH group explained to FreshPlaza.

The multinational group Girò, based in Spain and present in 50 countries on 5 continents, is renowned worldwide as a leading company in the production of packaging machines and materials (nets and printed film) for fruit and vegetables, as well as assisting customers with support, experience, service and quality.

"The brand is developing a plan to reduce emissions at its headquarters and production plants. In terms of innovation, the goal is to develop new packaging solutions, based on environmentally sustainable technologies and materials for the production of printed labels and nets that are also visually appealing, durable and 100% recyclable. Currently, the production line is made of materials that weigh weigh between 3 and 12 grams, and can contain up to 5 kg of fruit," according to Franco Locati, sales manager of Giró Italia.

"Thanks to the composition of our plastic packagings we had no particular difficulty in finding raw materials" - explained the group managers. We have been able to continue our activity and meet our customers' needs, keeping our prices flat as they were in the phase before the sanitary crisis, despite such a difficult moment. This was because of an unprecedented increase in demand for packaging materials for fruit and vegetables."

"Why is it a smart choice to buy packaged fruit and vegetables rather than unpacked? - concluded the company management - There are many reasons. First of all, packaged fruit and vegetables are convenient because they contain more fruit, thus considerably reducing handling. Moreover, I do not have to check the quality of the fruit to be purchased, because someone has already done so, namely the supplier, who is responsible for the quality of the product packaged in units without imperfections and homogeneous size. In addition, compared to unpacked products, the bag or net reduces the handling of fruit and vegetable at the counter, with the additional advantage for families of speeding up their shopping. Lastly, it is worth mentioning that less steps in verifying the weight/price, reduces the number of users on the same keyboard".
