The watermelon campaign in Almeria is looking good for the new variety from Semillas Fitó: the Rhiana watermelon, a triploid watermelon cultivar, with a dark green veined color and recommended for medium and late transplants in the province's greenhouses.
Rhiana is an earlier variety than those of the competition, since the setting is carried out very easily and with great uniformity, which results in very homogeneous fruits and with a size appropriate to the market's demands. From the point of view of internal quality, the Rhiana has an excellent flavor, reaching very high Brix levels. It also has a deep red flesh with a crisp and very juicy texture.
The company has marketed a significant number of seeds to show the quality and potential of this variety, so it is expected to consolidate in the coming campaigns.
In the greenhouse melon segment, Semillas Fitó stands out with its long life Sidonia variety, a Galia melon that is ideal for export thanks to its long shelf life and great flavor. In this segment, Fitó is working on two very advanced innovations to complete the cultivation cycle: a Galia for early transplants and another for late ones.
Semillas Fitó continues to be the leader in the Cantaloupe melon segment with the Jacobo and Solmarín, which stand out for their homogeneity, excellent caliber, very good flesh quality, high productivity and earliness.
As for yellow melons, the Malerva remains the undisputed leader, since it perfectly meets the demands of the export market. Also worthy of note in this segment is the inclusion of varieties such as the Robleo or Soleares as options in the sale of certified seeds for organic cultivation.
