Heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds, have damaged banana crop plantations in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. The banana growers were already facing a crisis, not being able to sell their produce due to the nationwide lockdown coronavirus. Around 100 acres of banana plantations were damaged in the Anantapur district. According to aninews.in, Kuchivaripalli growers estimate the loss at around Rs.10 mln (€120,000).
Hailstorm damages mango crops in Nagarkurnool
Some 1259 hectares of mango crops were damaged in hailstorms across the Nagarkurnool district – Telangana State -, according to Chandrashekhar Rao, District Horticultural Officer, who inspected the areas of crop loss on Wednesday.
The Peddakothapally region has recorded the maximum extent of damage, with 723.8 hectares of mango crop lost due to hailstorm on Tuesday, followed by Kollapur (283 hectares), Kodair (121 hectares) and Pentlavelli (40 hectares).
