At Byens Grønttorv from Erritsø, Denmark on Jutland, they have found a way to use the Corona crisis to their advantage. From one moment to the next, owners Lars Lodahl and Johnny Andreasen saw the company's turnover cut in half and had to think of something quickly. Now they have been able to adapt their sales, which are normally aimed at restaurants, canteens and company kitchens, and to make fruit and vegetable boxes for private individuals.
Lars Lodahl: “When my wife and I saw company cancellations coming in one after the other, we thought that like supermarkets we can also do a "yes thank you offer".* We took a picture of what we thought fits in a box and then uploaded it.”
Things went quickly after that: in the first week, 65 boxes were sold and just before Easter that had increased to 250 boxes sold. The sale goes through Facebook and gives the company the opportunity to compensate part of the lost turnover.
Lars Lodahl and Johnny Andreasen are now considering expanding with temporary delivery points in other cities due to the popularity of the concept.
* A "yes thank you offer" (Danish: ja tak-tilbud), is a relatively new marketing concept in Denmark and is used by (local) supermarkets: they upload a picture of an offer on their Facebook page. Consumers can respond to this with "ja tak" in other words "yes thank you" and then they either get a sales link or they can pick up the product at the relevant branch.
