Seasonal fruits from production areas all over China will gradually enter the market in large volumes as the weather slowly warms up. The loquat is one of the consumer favorites, although it has a relatively short shelf-life in comparison with other fruits. The production season is also quite limited. Some production areas have already begun to supply loquat, but the loquat from Suzhou will enter the market in May."
Rao Zhenghua of Dongshan Longzhen Agricultural Products Co,. Ltd., which is located in Wuzhong district of Suzhou, recently talked about the current loquat production season in Suzhou: "The production season of our Suzhou Dongshan White Jade loquat officially begins in May. The loquat will enter the market earlier than in previous years because the early spring weather was quite warm. We expect to begin our harvest on May 5th. As for the production volume, this is a great year for loquat and we expect the production volume to be about 20% larger than last year. The product quality is also better than before. Furthermore, loquats have a beneficial effect on the respiratory system, and it is almost impossible too eat too many!"
"The Chinese market suffered immense damage from the outbreak of COVID-19 shortly after Chinese Spring Festival [25 January, 2020]. It is still too early too tell how the market will develop. Current conditions do not look too good. What we can say for certain is that the price of loquat will be lower than last year.
"The main reason for this fluctuation is the size of the production volume. A second reason is the limited freedom of people to go shopping during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are eagerly looking for new retail channels that can help us sell our products. For example, we are experimenting with more refined packaging methods that are better suited for express delivery. In this way we hope to stimulate the online sales of our loquat products. At the moment, we mainly supply wholesale markets. We are also looking to cooperate with supermarkets and fruit chain stores. And we would like to further develop our delivery services."
