The avocado industry represents more than 21,000 avocado producers and more than 40 packaging facilities in Mexico. 46% of all Mexican avocado exports are packaged by subsidiaries of United States companies, according to data from the Association of Avocado Producers, Packers, and Exporters of Mexico (APEAM).
Avocado exports increase strongly
Exporting nations that in the past had a small market share have gained strength thanks to the profitability of the avocado industry.
The world avocado market has increased remarkably during the last decade. Avocado exports worldwide went from approximately 693,000 tons at the end of the 2009 season to 2,140,000 tons in 2019. Most of this increase can be explained by the growing demand for avocados worldwide and the global understanding of the benefits that this fruit provides.
