The Ministry of Economy of the UAE confirmed that there is a sufficient stock of vegetables, fruits and food commodities to meet the needs of citizens and residents in the country, as well as those of neighboring countries.
After a meeting held by the Ministry with major fruit and vegetable traders, Eng. Mohamed Abdel-Aziz Al-Shehhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, said in a statement to Al-Bayan that the current state of the country's vegetable and fruit supply operations is very reassuring.
He said that during the meeting, traders confirmed that there is a large supply of vegetables and fruits, enough to ensure great stability in the supply operations. Relations are also in place with a great diversity of international traders from North and South America, South Africa or Arab countries.
Al-Shehhi said that big traders report no obstacles to the transport of goods from international markets to the Emirates, with excellent conditions for the transportation of goods by air, land or sea from all global markets.
He stressed that the stock of strategic commodities in the UAE is large enough to last for more than six months, highlighting also the strong daily activity in the import from international markets, which is leading to the significant growth of those stocks.
He also praised the role played by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Agriculture and Food Safety, Abu Dhabi Customs, Dubai Customs and the Federal Customs Authority in facilitating the entry of goods and commodities into the country. During the meeting, large traders assured that there was great flexibility in the clearance of goods. "There is great coordination between us and we thank the Abu Dhabi Authority for Agriculture, Food Safety and Customs."
