The presence of new exhibitor DOLAV Germany LLC at Fruit Logistica was focused on the new harvest box: the Dolav Alto 1400. The large boxes made of HDPE and special additives have a total volume of 1,400 litres and can be used without problems, even under difficult conditions in the field or in the warehouse. "With our modern solution we want to address both the fresh and the frozen sector," says Denys Mucker, Managing Director DOLAV Germany.
During the development phase, the focus was primarily on the highest customer demands in production, but also in cold stores and in the field. A prototype of the box was subjected to a practical test in which it was cooled down to - 40°C and then dropped onto a concrete floor from a height of 6 metres. The box survived this test undamaged. On the other hand, the Israeli-made boxes can also be used in an environment of up to +60 degrees.

"At the moment, we are fully in production and the crates are now gradually being put on the market," says Mr Mucker. "We are primarily oriented towards processors of stored vegetables - such as carrots, cabbages, onions and potatoes - in both the fresh and frozen sectors. For those who store their goods directly from the field and then process them, our large box is advantageous. Especially in this area, a lot of wood is still used, although plastic offers a safe, hygienic solution that meets today's standards in the food sector. DOLAV offers an alternative, especially in the area of "chemical contamination", which is deposited in wooden boxes and cannot be washed out. In addition, DOLAV boxes can also be individually designed, are easy to clean and - last but not least - can be reused for many years."
Safe use in the field
According to Mucker, the construction of the large crate has been specially designed for outdoor use in the field. The openings for the forklift skids have been fitted with a so-called "safety belt", which in some places has more than twice the wall thickness as in normal side walls. This thickness has the advantage that it is preventive against damage caused by forklift forks in everyday handling. "This not only benefits the stability and durability of our boxes, but also the safety during harvesting or storage work. Because the boxes are always 100% straight even when fully loaded. This means we guarantee 100% safety, even when the boxes are stacked 8 high and the total quantity is 8,000 kg."
