Argentina's pear and apple market hasn't been affected by the coronavirus yet

Despite the authorities' concern, the expansion of the coronavirus in Argentina hasn't affected the Alto Valle fruit market yet. For the moment, Customs and the National Agricultural Food Health and Quality Service haven't applied any measures due to the coronavirus (Senasa) and the country's borders are open. However, measures are expected.

"Right now we are worried and scared due to the possibility of contagion so we are seeing how the situation in the country develops. Fortunately, our activity still hasn't suffered concrete consequences. We are working normally, but with a very uncertain outlook," stated Agustin Argibay, the president of the Argentine Chamber of Integrated Fruit Growers (CAFI).

Currently, the Alto Valle is marketing its fruits, mainly to the Brazilian market, and any eventuality could put the local economy at risk.

CAFI viewed with good eyes that President Alberto Fernandez wants to strengthen the internal market, but they emphasized that they must continue to generate foreign exchange for the country via exports.
