The use of gases in food production for cooling, freezing and packaging is state of the art today. The use of gases such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide and oxygen increases the demands on personal protection. The reliability of gas warning systems and gas sensors for the safe detection and monitoring of hazardous gas concentrations in particularly demanding production facilities is extremely important.
The use of high-pressure cleaners for regular cleaning in food production areas is a particular challenge for electronics and sensor technology and thus for the reliability of detecting hazardous gas concentrations. The requirement for being water resistant should be fundamentally fulfilled. Additional protective housings, which protect the gas sensor from water, mean a significantly higher installation effort, poorer measuring characteristics as well as costly disassembly for regular calibration.
Sensor technology for the food sector
Special requirements require special solutions. Due to a waterproof but gas-permeable construction, a diffusion measuring head specially developed for the application, robust technology and a housing specially adapted for SCENTY® gas sensors in the food industry, the sensor technology is virtually insensitive to high-pressure cleaners and water. "Due to the high demands on the degree of protection - especially in the food industry - we have again had the degree of protection IP67 and IP69K of the SCENTY® gas sensors tested. The test was carried out by an accredited testing institute and the degrees of protection were again confirmed."
